10th  Movement:  Pie Jesu

The tenth movement of the Requiem, Pie Jesu, is accompanied by a video tour of the Basilica Papale di Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.

Pie Jesu, like each of the composition's movements, was inspired by the beauty and grandeur of some of the world's great cathedrals and churches.

The Text     Pie Jesu (Domine) (Gentle Lord Jesus)   Although the Pie Jesu also appears elsewhere in the Requiem liturgy (in the final line of the Lacrimosa dies illa), in musical settings it is frequently repeated or included as a separate section. Today, the Pie Jesu is widely known for its inclusion in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Requiem (1985).

The Composition    Pie Jesu is scored for boys’ choir (singing in unison) and a 40-piece string orchestra.
